Frequently Asked Questions:
Why is the cost of the New Building $1.8 million?
This cost includes the anticipated cost of the building itself of $1.5 million (10,000 square feet @ $150.00/sq. ft.) as well as an estimated $300,000 to develop the property (sewer, and water system development, sidewalks, excavation, geotechnical engineering, paving, etc.). This steel building construction with Maranatha is less than with any other wood-based potential builder.
Why is the size of the building 10,000 sq. ft.? Why not bigger or smaller?
We wanted to have a building comparable to our current building space-wise, but that allowed for a more efficient floor plan. In the design, the Building Committee studied the needs of the church in light of several principles: accessibility for everyone; the need for designated rooms for Sunday School, nursery and youth programs; centralized staff and pastoral offices; worship and fellowship areas; and adequate parking and open space.
What is wrong with our current building? Why can’t we just remodel and stay here?
The church building is almost 100 years old. One of the major desires in a building is one that does not segregate a part of our congregation. This is currently impossible given the limitations of our current church and office annex structure. The current church buildings are in need of constant care and are in need of rewiring in both the worship & fellowship center and the church office, new plumbing for both buildings, (including all pipes that lead to the buildings from the street), and the removal of asbestos. We would also need to address additional structural issues, install a new sound system for those who have to sit downstairs, upgrade the handicap ramp and drastically alter the room limitations of the current buildings. These changes would not allow for any expansion or additional parking.
Why do we need an outside consultant?
After careful consideration, it was determined that this type of campaign was not something our church family was capable of undertaking on our own. It was apparent that we needed professional help and yet wanted it to be from an organization experienced with church fundraising. In our efforts to recruit, Horizons Stewardship and specifically Tom Melzoni was recommended by churches who had experience in this type of campaign. Both the company and the consultant were thoroughly vetted before the decision was made to recommend to the congregation that we pursue his assistance. A common refrain from churches that had either attempted to raise money on their own or chose someone else was, “We wish we had gone to Tom from the very beginning.”
What is the purpose of the new facility?
To continue to reach out to everyone with the infallible and inerrant Word of God. To continue spreading His light and promise throughout our Community. In order to do that we need a proper facility from which to reach out to those within
Have we looked at all alternatives? Is there a cheaper option for building?
Yes. The Building Committee has strived to do all due diligence in regards to researching all possibilities in regards to finding the most cost effective ways to pursue a new facility for our church family. They have looked at numerous building companies, contractors, designs and plans to find the most cost effective option for FBCC. The building design by Maranatha will cost less than other options, and the building, once construction is completed, will save the church significantly on energy costs.
What will happen to ‘His Place’?
What happens to ‘His Place’ will be determined by the church family and will be based on a number of factors including the success of the “Building By Faith” Campaign.
What is Sacrificial Giving?
Giving sacrificially is going above and beyond your regular giving under the leadership of the Holy Spirit for the cause of Christ, for the building of God’s Kingdom, to the Glory of God. It requires a reassessment of our spending and lifestyle and readjusting our priorities. Sacrificial giving requires a measure of stewardship that one maybe has never experienced. Sacrificial giving costs the giver something, yet it brings a sense of joy, and accomplishment knowing that you did something to build the Kingdom of God. Therefore when you look back over your life and see how you lived and gave you will be blessed in knowing that you contributed to the cause that gives hope and life for all eternity, the cause of Christ
Can Assets other than cash be contributed?
Yes! Many times major gifts in the form of investment securities, real estate or other assets are committed in a campaign like ours. In fact, you may benefit from favorable tax treatment of the contribution of appreciable assets.
When will financial commitments be received and for how long?
On Sunday, May 7th, 2017, we will have our Commitment & Celebration Sunday, where we will be asking people to make their estimate of giving for the upcoming three years and will Celebrate everything God has done to bless our Church Family. After the service we are going to continue our celebration with a special get together at our property.
What can I do to help?
1. Pray. Individually, collectively; the most important thing you can do is pray. Pray for our church, for this campaign and that we will never take our eyes off of God’s will for our Church.
2. When the time comes to make a commitment, earnestly seek the Lord’s guidance and follow His will in your heart.
3. Participate. When asked to assist, step forward, take part and follow what God has laid on your heart.
